CORPORATE EDUCATION CENTER

Lake Washington Institute of Technology  |  Redmond, Washington
Completed:  2005  |  Construction Cost:  $5.4 million

Situated between an industrial park and a recreational park, the LWIT Corporate Education Center (CEC) celebrates its location at the nexus of these two distinct land uses by creating a gateway that references both.  The design reflects the agricultural history of the site while respecting the modern context of Redmond as a center for cutting-edge technology.  With the goal of developing workforce training opportunities through strategic corporate and community partnerships, the college envisioned a facility where it could foster business, industry and education in an integrated program under a single roof.

The Redmond campus CEC houses 21,000 square feet of technology-based labs, classrooms, a learning resources center, conference space, and administrative offices.  The central two-level lobby focuses on the adjacent park and provides informal student study spaces both inside and outside the building.

The center incorporates sustainable materials, systems and features, and it was the first building in the state's community and technical college system to achieve a LEED Silver certification.
