JOHNSON LIBRARY / CLASSROOM

Olympic College  |  Shelton, Washington
Completed:  2003  |  Construction Cost:  $1.2 million

The Johnson Library and Classroom Building, constructed adjacent to the college’s branch campus in Shelton, is a significant step in Olympic College’s overall plan to improve its facilities and the services offered to its students and the communities of Mason County.  We worked closely with the college administration, students, and members of the Shelton community to develop an academic building that also provides a long needed community gathering space.

The building plan centers on a central open space available for conferences, workshops and seminars. By moving large sliding glass walls in the reading room, the space enlarges to encompass the adjacent student lounge and an outside patio, creating a large, central open community space on campus. Other functions include the library, technology classrooms, distance learning facilities, faculty offices, student amenities and campus support areas.
